The Global Challenge

What follows is an email sent November 4, 2019, to more than 8,000 leaders in science, politics, and the energy business, 5,000 reporters, and nearly 18,000 others concerned with climate change. In this email I am challenging anyone in the world to find any significant error on the single web page Physically-Impossible.com that could change my fundamental and most unexpected conclusion that greenhouse-warming theory is not only mistaken, it is not even physically possible.

Subject: We can burn fossil fuels safely—a most unexpected conclusion based on a profound revolution in the physics of heat

The world has warmed nearly two degrees Fahrenheit since 1970. A profound revolution in the physics of heat, however, shows unequivocally that greenhouse gases cannot physically be the cause. They do not absorb enough heat to warm Earth. The scientific evidence is remarkably clear in hindsight.

Major warming in future decades predicted by computer models based on greenhouse-warming theory cannot and will not happen.

We can burn fossil fuels safely provided we minimize air pollution. Major greenhouse gases such as water and carbon dioxide are not air pollutants. There is now no scientific justification for the 2009 EPA Endangerment Finding, the 2015 Paris Agreement, or climate lawsuits being filed against governments and energy companies.

These conclusions have been available since 2015. Unfortunately, most of my fellow scientists have refused to consider seriously what is now painfully obvious. They are sure, beyond a reasonable doubt, that greenhouse-warming theory is correct and that they must demonstrate consensus to convince political leaders to act promptly. Politics requires consensus, but science thrives on debate.

At  Physically-Impossible.com, I describe cogently why greenhouse-warming theory is physically impossible. I hereby challenge anyone in the world to find any significant error on this short webpage that could change this fundamental and most unexpected conclusion. Please ask anyone defending greenhouse-warming theory to explain what is wrong at Physically-Impossible.com in the public discussion group linked to the end of that webpage.

Peter Langdon Ward earned a BA at Dartmouth College and a PhD at Columbia University in geophysics. He worked 27 years at the United States Geological Survey, leading a group of more than 140 scientists and staff and playing a lead role in establishing and initially leading a major national research program. He chaired a committee at the White House, worked on a committee for Vice President Gore, and testified before Congress in 2004 and in 1978.
